Photographing Bond Falls- Winter
I named this place Listening Point because only when one comes to listen, only when one is aware and still, can things be seen and heard. Everyone has a listening point somewhere. It does not have to be in the north or close to the wilderness, but someplace of quiet where the universe can be contemplated with awe.

I am a retired art teacher. For 31 years I taught everything from Kindergarten to 12th grade in 10 different buildings. Most of my time was at the middle school level. About 10 years ago I decided to get back into photography as a diversion from going through radiation treatments for salivary gland cancer. Since that time my wife and I have done everything from kid and family portraits, senior portraits, and weddings. But my real love for photography is when I blend it with our love of the outdoors.
My wife and I love to backpack and canoe. We make frequent trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and the Porcupine Mountains. I have a collection of different canoes, including a few old wood canvas canoes and I enjoy working on the restoration of them.
In 2016 we decided we were ready to buy a place of our own in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. I told my realtor that I “only” wanted a place like Sig Olson’s Listening Point. On our budget, I knew that was only a dream. But we wandered around looking here and there. We found a couple places we really liked but this or that happened and our attempts to purchase them fell through.
One splendid morning though we pulled up to a place in the Manitowish Waters/ Presque Isle area that I fell in love with moments after stepping out of the Jeep. I knew this was the place we’d been searching for.
That day we pulled in there was a light mist and the wind was whispering through the white pines along the shore of the lake. I call it “Whispering Point” (or often, as my friends know, paradise). Hence the name of this website.
So now it is from the Wisconsin Northwoods/ Upper Michigan that I base my photography.
Places my work has been displayed include: Center for the Visual Arts, Northern National, The Artist's Muse (Howard Young Medical Center), Porcupine Mountains Visitors Guide, Wowspace, Wisconsin Great Lakes Calendar, Wooden Canoe Heritage Association's Calendar, Our Wisconsin Magazine, and Wooden Canoe Magazine,
